Spekulasjonene har gått høyt etter at Ferrari og Sebastan Vettel bestemte seg for å ikke fortsette samarbeidet – nå er det altså klar at han blir erstattet av Carlos Sainz Jr.

Tirsdag morgen kom bekreftelsen på at Vettel ikke vil kjøre for Ferrari etter denne sesongen, det skjedde etter mange rykter og påstander om at avstanden var for står mellom de to partene.
Allerede før dette skjedde ble Sainz Jr. nevnt som en aktuell kandidat for Ferrari.
Den 25 år gamle spanjolen imponerte i sin første sesong for McLaren. Han tok teamets første pallplassering på nesten seks år, med sin tredjeplass i Brasil Grand Prix.
McLaren hadde allerede tidligere i år samtaler med Sainz i forbindelse med hans kontrakt, som går ut etter årets sesong.
For oss nordmenn er det jo spennende å merke seg at Sainz er et resultat av Red Bulls juniorprogram. Han vant Formula Renault 3.5-mesterskapet i 2014 før han gikk til Toro Rosso året før – der fikk kan en svært sentral rolle da Max Verstappen ble løftet opp til Red Bull i 2016.
Deretter fulgte ett år i Renault før han gikk videre til McLaren – der han i fjor ble nummer seks i førermesterskapet, og dermed var «best of the rest». Sammen med teamkompis Lando Norris, sikret de en imponerende fjerdeplass i konstruktørmesterskapet – den beste plasseringen for teamet siden 2012.

Born in Madrid on 1st September 1994, Carlos already has plenty of Formula 1 experience, having taken part in 102 World Championship Grands Prix, over five seasons. In 2019, he finished sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, his best ever result, in a year when he also made it to a podium position for the first time, finishing third in Brazil.
